How to Make vada pav

This food is traditional food from India, vada pav food and make it yourself at home?


Ingredients :
  • 4 medium-sized potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2-3 green chilies, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ginger-garlic paste
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • A few curry leaves, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chopped coriander leaves
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil for frying

For Pav:
  • 4 pav (soft bread rolls)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
For Assembly:
  • Green chutney (made with coriander, mint, green chilies, and lemon juice)
  • Tamarind chutney
  • Dry garlic chutney (made with roasted garlic, red chili powder, and desiccated coconut)
  • Thinly sliced onions

How to make:


Vada Preparation:
  • Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and cumin seeds. Let them splutter.
  • Add chopped onions, green chilies, and curry leaves. Sauté until the onions turn translucent.
  • Add ginger-garlic paste and sauté for a minute.
  • Add turmeric powder and mashed potatoes. Mix well.
  • Add salt and chopped coriander leaves. Mix until all the ingredients are well combined.
  • Remove the mixture from heat and allow it to cool slightly.
  • Divide the mixture into small lemon-sized balls and shape them into patties.
  • Heat oil in a deep frying pan. Fry the potato patties (vadas) until golden brown and crisp.
  • Remove the vadas from the oil and drain them on a kitchen towel to remove excess oil.
Pav Preparation:
  • Slit the pav horizontally, but not all the way through.
  • Heat a pan or tawa and spread some butter on it.
  • Toast the pav on the pan until it becomes slightly crispy and light golden brown. Remove from heat.
Assembly:
  • Take a pav and spread some green chutney and tamarind chutney on the inner sides.
  • Sprinkle some dry garlic chutney over the chutneys.
  • Place a vada (potato patty) in between the pav.
  • Add a few slices of thinly sliced onions on top of the vada.
  • Press the pav slightly to close it.
